Weekend Bets: Rank the Slate, Feb 13

For the first time in over six months we have reached a Saturday where we know that there is no football to be had this weekend. This is weird, this is strange, this is I guess, “the new normal.”

Regardless, there are plenty of other great events to throw your money at this weekend and you have come to the right spot to find out just exactly what you should be betting on. With an array of different sports – I decided that there are just so many games on the board that it’s hard to pick just a few “best bets.” So with that in mind, I’m going to pick a few games that I like from a couple different sports and rank them.

The Utah Jazz are on a fricken tear and it doesn’t look like they are slowing down for anyone. The last time they didn’t cover a game was January 31 and they have covered every single game besides that Jan 31 contest since January 8th. They take on the Miami Heat on Saturday Night and the spread is -6.5. Miami has covered in just 3 of their last 7 and the injury bug is affecting them big time. I rank this as a RED HOT cover.

Brooklyn is one of the best over teams in the NBA but they are taking on a Golden State squad that doesn’t seem to be scoring at a high clip. They have hit the over in just 2 of their last eight games and the total is set at a lofty 245.5. The Warriors average just 113 points a game, leaving  a ton of room for the Nets to account for. This is a medium lock for me that the under hits.

On Sunday night, you can take your boo out for dinner or ignore her, win some money, and send her a venmo. We all know the latter is the move. The Celtics are taking on the Wizards and these two like to hit the OVER when playing each other. Marcus Smart is still out and the defense for Boston is a concern. Let Bradley Beal go to work and let this total fly, but I would be cautious.

The Bruins are taking on the Islanders on Saturday night which is a really good rivalry match to watch if you care about those sorts of things. What I care about is that Boston has hit the UNDER in 10 of their last 15 and the Isles have gone under in 10 of 14. I hate betting the under but this one seems too obvious to avoid. I think it’s a lock.

And while that team goes under, you know that I love an OVER right after that. The Golden Knights are taking on the Sharks and goaltending seems to not be a thing in these games. The OVER has hit in 4 of the last 5 for Vegas and in 10 of the last 14 for the Sharks. Both teams are at least four games over .500 when hitting the OVER.

I cannot believe these words are being typed but me but I want to hammer the Cal State Bakersfield Road Runners tonight against the  UC San Diego Tritons. Cal State is 9-7-1 against the spread and have played much better in the Big West vs the WAC. The Tritons are just 2-5 against the spread this season and haven’t played nearly as many games. At 6.5, I love the line.

And finally, we are heading to the PAC-12 for a game that I love at a medium rate. The Buffs are taking on the Golden Bears and Cal doesn’t play basketball this year. Cal has lost seven straight games while Colorado is 6-1 in their last 7. You can take the spread at 10 or the moneyline if you are looking to risk a lot for a little. I think Colorado takes care of business here.
