WASHINGTON VS EAGLES BEST BETS/PROPS, DEC. 21
With the NFL’s amended schedule due to COVID, this Tuesday has some great league action with teams’ playoffs hopes on the line. For this NFC East matchup, Antonio Gibson and the Washington Football Team travel to Philadelphia to face off against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles. Last week, the WFT were narrowly defeated by the Cowboys 27-20, whereas the Eagles served their bye in Week 14. Both teams have had their struggles this season, but one team’s postseason dreams will still be alive and the other will be virtually eliminated after this one. With this in mind, here is what I love for this Tuesday Night Football.
The Eagles opened this game as two and a half-point home favorites, but the line has moved due to injuries and COVID-19 designations and they are now favored by a whopping eight and a half-points. While Washington has been 4-1 ATS in their last five games, the Eagles have been an efficient 6-3 ATS in their previous nine contests. Although the Eagles have dealt with all kinds of adversity this year, Washington will barely be able to field a team where they have 30 players out due to COVID or injury. Additionally, they will be without the aid of seven coaches except their head coach Ron Rivera. However, they will be without their starting QB Taylor Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen. The Eagles have had Washington’s number where they are 6-2 SU and ATS in their last eight matchups. If Philly can mitigate turnovers by taking care of the ball they have a great chance of beating this depleted Football Team. Although Washington’s defensive unit has been a serviceable bunch this season, they have had some inconsistencies where they have been scorched on that side of the ball. I can’t see the WFT having much success versus a relatively healthy Philadelphia squad. Don’t let this number fool you, take the Eagles minus the points at home.
Terry McLaurin Over 55.5 Receiving Yards
Following subpar outings in his last two performances, All-Pro wide out Terry McLaurin should be leaned on quite a bit with multiple key players out on Washington. He has only totaled 22 yards receiving on three total catches in the past two weeks. However, he does have over 100 targets and 61 catches already on the year, so he has been a big part of their offense. McLaurin is a premium receiver in the NFL and with his receiving total this low, it must be taken advantage of. With Washington star running back Antonio Gibson drawing enough attention, all focus will be on trying to stop him, which should give McLaurin the opportunity to be productive. The Birds rank in the bottom five of overall pass defense, so expect them to try and find success through the air. Terry has had some monstrous outings this year where he has four 100 yard outings and is ahead of the pace to have his 2nd straight season with 1,000 yards receiving. With how big of a threat he is, no matter who’s passing, he’ll make teams pay that give him any space at all. Expect McLaurin to bounce back and take him to get it done on the receiving end.
DeVonta Smith Any Time TD (+165)
Following a lackluster outing in his last performance without his starting quarterback, Eagles rookie wide out DeVonta Smith should be a big part of the passing attack with QB Jalen Hurts in the lineup tonight. With the countless injuries to Washington’s defense, Smith will see a heightened role as the Eagles should be airing it out all night. So far, he has 50 receptions for an impressive 701 yards on four touchdown receptions. He has been a big part of their offense and a favorite target for Jalen Hurts, so expect to see him happily reconnected with his normal throwing partner. Smith is a perfect red zone threat standing at nearly 6’1” with a massive wingspan, and with his touchdown prop looking this juicy, it must be taken advantage of. With few weapons on their offense, he has been a main target on their offense, leaving him as a trusty end zone option. The Football Team ranks in the bottom five of overall pass defense, so expect them to try and find success through the air. He has had some colossal outings this year where he has two 100 yard performances and a high of 11 targets in one game this year. With how sure handed he is, he is a perfect red zone target. Expect DeVonta Smith to have an overall good night and take him to score one for Philly.
