Trend: US Open Golf Picks, June 15

I try my absolute best to be a smart bettor, only bet the big events, and bet what I know. Of course, this rarely ever happens and I am a colossal idiot for not following this pattern, but this is my life so butt the fuck out. But one thing that I really do try to stay loyal to is only betting on the big golf tournaments. I am talking about the major championships and the other illustrious matches that capture the national audience.

This week, we have the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California and it is bound to be one of the most dramatic tournaments of the year given the fact that two of the biggest stars in the game are fighting like high school girls over a guy that will turnout to be a junkie in about three years time.

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are going to make this tournament fun because not only do they fucking despise each other, but there is also a very good chance that both of these guys could find themselves playing on Sunday in the final pairing. If that won’t make for good golf, I’m not too sure what will. In just the last few years, Koepka has won two US Open championships and DeChambeau won last year at Winged Foot in a dominant fashion.

John Rahm (+1000)
But the favorite heading into the weekend is Jon Rahm who is still looking for his first major championship and was robbed of a victory two weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament. He is currently at +1000 but his value is through the roof. He may not have a win in 2021 but he has 10 top-10 finishes so far this year and should have had a win two weeks ago. On top of that, he loves playing at Torrey Pines, notching 1, 2, 5, and 7 finishes over the last few years. There is no denying his greatness at this course and his desire to win will be higher than ever.

Dustin Johnson Top-5 (+500)
Also, stop what you’re doing and take advantage of that free money

Let’s go with a name that we haven’t heard in a while: Dustin Johnson. The last time that we saw DJ basking in glory was back in November of 2020 when he was slipping on the green jacket. He hasn’t won since then but he did lead after 36 holes just last week. My favorite bet for Johnson is for him to finish in the Top-5 which is currently at a +500 value. He hasn’t had the greatest year, but he is still the number one ranked player in the world. He has finished sixth or better in five of the last seven U.S. Opens.

Collin Morikawa Top-20 (+100)
The course at Torrey Pines is going to have some very thick roughs and a lot of penalty play for guys who can’t keep the ball straight off the tee (looking at you Byson.) So it’s important to hone in on a guy who is great with his driver and land the fairways. For me, that is Collin Morikawa. He ranks first in greens in regulation, 2nd in strokes gained, and 12th in fairways hit. He won the U.S. Open just a year ago and has proven he can fit on the big stage. Koepka won back-to-back tournaments in 2017 and 2018, but I’ll go with a more conservative Top-20 finish at +100 for a great value.

Xander Schauffele Top-5 (+350)
And finally, I am all about rooting for the hometown kid. Xander Schauffele grew up just down the street from Torrey Pines, played there as a high schooler quite often, and is bound to have a massive fan-group traveling with him from hole to hole from Thursday through Sunday. Schauffele has finished in the Top-6 in his last four appearances at the US Open and ranks 11th in greens in regulation. You can get him as the overall winner at +2000 but I am going with a Top-5 at +350.
