New Orleans Pelicans

Trend Thursday: Pelicans Fly High, Feb. 18

Who is feeling better on this wonderful Thursday than an Eagles fan that just watched their messiah get traded away for a bag of peanuts and some skunked beer? I know that I am.

Part of the reason that I woke up in a chipper mood is because I hammered the Pelican/Blazers OVER on Wednesday night. The number was just too juicy to pass on and I doubled my unit size for this one, something I almost never do.

But with that newfound money in my pocket, I decided I should shower the great fans of SportsGamblingGuides.com with some serious knowledge on a new edition of The Trend so that you can win some money with me.

I bet on the Pelicans to blast past the OVER last night because no team in basketball is on a total tear like this team is. Seriously, if you look at the numbers on this one, you will agree that backing the Pels when the total is low is a massive win.

In their last 17 games, SEVENTEEN GAMES!!,  the Pelicans are 15-1-1 when trying to cover the OVER. That is a massive win rate that we can never just sit back and pass up on. For real, that is a golden opportunity at winning big all the time. Let’s take a deeper look into these numbers and figure out why they have been so successful.

For starters, New Orleans has the eighth best offense and the 23rd ranked defense. If you know anything from reading the trend, you know that we LOVE a team that scores well and plays dog-shit defense and this is another classic example. The Pels are shooting 48 percent from the floor, fifth best in the league, and they are bringing in 46 percent of offensive rebounds, a nod to how well Zion is playing down low.

They have seen incredible play out of guys like Brandon Ingram, and even half decent play from a guy like Lonzo Ball. This Pels team isn’t jam packed with stars by any means but they really do know how to score the ball efficiently and then go down the floor and let the other team do the same.

They are a good offense team but really a bad defensive team. They rank 28th in both three point percentage allowed and in free-throw percentage allowed. The only category they really stand a chance in is rebounds and again, that’s a big nod to Zion. Teams are scoring at will on the Pels and the foul trouble isn’t helping them either.

The only game in their last 17 that wasn’t covered was a total that was set at 234.5. But other than that, they almost always cover games when the total is that high. Six games out of the last 17 have been set at 230 or more and they have covered. If they have any game where the total is set in the 210’s-220’s, it is moronic not to take it.

Eventually this trend will fade off, as they all do but I am a huge believer in you ride the hot hand until it fails you twice in a row and right now that is exactly what I’ll be doing. Their next game is Friday night and they are taking on the Phoenix Suns who have also been a very hot team when it comes to pushing the total. Phoenix has hit the OVER in their last 4 of 5 and I would imagine this total to be set at north of 232. Phoenix is a perfect match to win some more money and you can bet your ass I’ll be doing so.

Free Play of the Day:

Loyal Fans Section. Who knows how many of you actually get this far but I hope it is a lot because the last Free Play of the Day cashed with zero problems. I like Ohio State to cover -4.5 against Penn State tonight. The Nittany Lions are an atrocious basketball program at the moment and have lost four of their last five. Ohio State has won six straight and covered in four straight. They are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 against Penn State.
