Oregon Ducks

Thursday Trend: Coach Prime Hates Vegas, Mar. 12

Sports are like fully, fully back and it feels like Christmas Day in a strip club, kinda dirty but should be a good time. We have NCAA Conference Tournaments, March Madness a week away, the NBA has resumed, UFC, The Players Tournament in the PGA, FCS Football (yeah, we’re talking about it), and Spring Training.

Because there is a lot going on and nothing absolutely major will happen before we get March Madness starting next week, you’re getting a gift yourself by a TWO TREND edition. Yeah, you heard that right, we are giving you not one but TWO Trends today (call now for free shipping and handling.)

Let’s start with some basketball. The conference tournaments are already off to an interesting start and they are somewhat difficult to give out predictions on because as we have already seen, literally anything can happen, i.e Duke forfeiting because of a positive COVID test. We also can’t give you a full blown trend projection because a team we highlight could be eliminated by tonight so consider this a good trend and a free pick.

We are focusing on the Oregon vs Oregon State game in the Pac-12 tournament. Both of these teams are good and they play each other really well. But the stat that I love is that they both hit the OVER with a frequent ease. Both teams went well over the .500 mark in the regular season when it came to pushing the posted total and tonight’s game shows them at 136 as the total.

Oregon State has hit the total in four of their last five and the Ducks have hit it in each of their last six games. Not only are they hitting it with ease, but in each of their last games, Oregon State scored 83 and Oregon scored 91. These two squads are putting up a ton of points at a massive clip and now that they are playing each other, it is hard to think it won’t happen again. They played just a few weeks ago and combined for 147 points in that one.

This Oregon team is the best team in the Pac-12 and it is hard for me to see them losing and if they do lose, they won’t just lay down. This is a game that could go into an overtime but at the very least will come with lots of foul shots at the end and some excitement that should add some points.

Here is the second trend that I really like. Have you seen Coach Prime’s team in the FCS? Jackson State is rolling opponents and it has been fun to watch. Listen, the FCS is full of high school dudes that wear their varsity jackets on college campus the first day they get there. Now, you’ve got a Hall of Famer recruiting legitimate D1 talent, so the outcome is going to be a bloodbath every single time. In their first game, they blanked a school named Edward Waters (been a weird article for team names) 53-0. In their second game, they were 10 point underdogs and upset the Grambling State which is an FCS POWERHOUSE. So this Jackson State team is legit.

Vegas doesn’t care too much about the FCS so they aren’t paying that close attention. In the first game, spreads were hardly available and they obviously underestimated Jackson State in game 10 by making them a +10. In their next two games they are playing two teams that finish near the bottom of the division year after year. In their next game, they are playing Mississippi Valley, a team that finished 2-9 in their last full season in 2019. They didn’t play a single game in 2020 and they have yet to take the field in 2021. So we are talking about a bunch of dudes who haven’t played in a game atmosphere in two years taking on a team coached by a competitive psychopath. Oh, and the spread is only -14.5.

I don’t know about you but I am treating Jackson State like the Alabama of the FCS until they prove me wrong. 14.5 is nothing to these guys and after a close win last week to a good team, expect this team to bring out all the stops in this one.
