SGG TNF Picks of the Day, Sept. 23
That’s right, it’s Thursday again, and that means we’re here with another three pack of Thursday’s top plays for you to boost your bankroll or, in many cases, make up for the money you lost on the Chiefs fumbling the game away on Monday night. Either way, if the Hamburglar’s Chiefs let you down or if your week isn’t off to the best start, no worries, we’ve got you covered going into the weekend.
Prime Time CMC: Christian McCaffrey Over 82 Rushing Yards.
The dumpster fire that is the Houston Texans will be taking on the up and coming Carolina Panthers, who are looking to remain undefeated after Sam Darnold got his revenge in week one against the Jets and they exposed the Saints in week two. This first play is about the PPR God himself, Christian McCaffrey. He’s back and healthy and causing you to have nightmares in your fantasy leagues. On the field in real time, he is about to have the Houston Texans have nightmares as well. We all know how much the Panthers love to use him out of the back field, but let’s look at his massive usage running the rock too. CMC had 21 touches in week 1 and an eye popping 24 touches in week 2. Now he didn’t cross the century mark with that volume, which is a little concerning, but for this play we don’t need him to, so look for his volume to continue at its current pace against a mid-level Texans run defense, who just allowed 156 yards to Cleveland.
Let’s face it, we are all not expecting David Mills and the Texans to do a whole lot here. The Panthers have been just average on the offensive side. They only put up 19 points against the Jets and their defense exposed Jameis Winston for what he still is in week 2 and scored 27 points. Houston has a middle of the pack defense and will limit the Panther offense that hasn’t fully clicked yet. Carolina’s pass defense has been ranked first through two weeks and will most likely remain so after facing David Mills. Looking at a lopsided game that should result in a heavy dose of CMC and the Panthers eating some clock at the end, Take the under 43.
CMC over 18.5 Rushing Attempts
I’m honestly not sure how this number is not over 20 after the first two weeks, but I will definitely take it. We touched on this earlier that CMC has seen north of 20 carries in each of the first two weeks and that is in both types of game scripts, close games and blowouts. The guy is never out of the game script. The offense is going to continue to run through McCaffrey and he will see more than 20 touches for the third week in a row, especially if this game gets away from Houston and there is garbage time to kill.
