SGG Picks of the Day, Oct. 1
Iowa -3.5 at Maryland -105 DK
If Iowa is actually the number five team in the country, beating an unranked Maryland squad on the road should not be a problem. To be fair, Maryland has been great this season. Like Iowa, they are undefeated at 4-0. Led by the arm of Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland is averaging 37.3 points per game. That said, they have not faced a defense like Iowa’s who is allowing just 11 points per game. In this one, I trust Iowa’s defense on the road. I like them to win by at least four.
Blue Jays -1.5 vs Orioles -165 DK
The AL wild-card race looks as crazy as ever. With three games remaining, the Yankees hold the top wild-card spot by one game. The Red Sox and Blue Jays are tied for the second wild-card spot while the Mariners are on the outside looking in as they trail by one game. Of those four teams, the Blue Jays are lucky in that they get to finish their season against the Orioles. Tonight at home, they will take care of business against the 52 win team and win by at least two runs.
Red Sox -1.5 at Nationals -125 DK
This Red Sox pick follows the same logic as the Blue Jays pick. Boston desperately needs to win this weekend. Like the Blue Jays, they get to face an inferior opponent to end their season. Starting for the Nationals tonight is Josh Rogers (2-1, 2.73 ERA). Although Rogers has been mostly solid, he has given up three earned runs in two of his five starts. In his last start against the Reds, Rogers struggled a bit allowing three earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched. Look for the Red Sox offense to get rolling in this one.
