SGG PICKS OF THE DAY APRIL 8
I like the value of the over with this pick. Last season, Yankees starter Gerrit Cole was not great against the Red Sox (4.91 ERA over 22 innings pitched). Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi was decent against the Yankees last year but was by no means dominant (3.71 ERA over 34 IP). Both of these teams have solid lineups. Yankee Stadium is a home run waiting to happen. Take the over.
Dodgers’ Total runs o6.5 (-110 FD)
The Dodgers have an All-Star team for a lineup. Tonight, they play the Rockies at Coors Field, a hitter’s heaven. The Rockies will trot Kyle Freeland to pitch. Last season against the Dodgers, Freeland was surprisingly good against them (3.24 ERA over 25 IP). That said, he had a much higher ERA at home (4.83) than on the road (3.84). With Rockies pitchers, this is quite common. Anyways, I expect Los Angeles and their new and improved lineup (which has Freddie Freeman now, like what) to rake and score many runs.
Marlins at Giants o7.5 (+102 FD)
Pitching matchup-wise, this pick doesn’t make a ton of sense. Logan Webb was awesome for the Giants last season (11-3, 3.03 ERA). Sandy Alcantara was also great for Miami even if they didn’t help him stack wins (9-15, 3.19 ERA). Over 7.5 runs have positive odds in this game. I like that. Eight total runs is not a lot. I just think that Opening Day can be weird and weird things can happen. Could this game finish with a 2-1 score? Yes, easily. It could also just as easily finish by a score of 6-5.
