Royals VS Cubs, Aug. 20
If you’re able to stay awake during this one, it could come up being a good game… if you like runs. Both of these teams came into the season with high expectations, but unfortunately, both have gone down the road of selling off top players in order to get some prospects to build toward the future. The Cubs finally won a couple games after a 12-game losing streak. Can they keep it going? Do the Royals have any fight left in them?
Not so Royal
As bad as these two teams are, both will be coming into this series on a win streak. The Royals have won three in a row, but Keller will have to turn things around if he wants to make it number four. The Royals are 1-10 in Keller’s last 11 starts. Outside of four starts in his last 15, Keller has given up multiple runs in each outing. He has also been plagued by the long ball, surrendering 10 homers over his last 15 outings. Keller has been hit hard on the road. He comes into today’s start with a 5.40 ERA and allowing opponents to hit a mind blowing .316 off him in road starts. Keller’s road troubles could spell trouble for the Royals, seeing as the Cubs have recently found their bats.
That’s exactly what this team has become, the young Cubs. If you held up a picture of the Cubs opening day roster and their current roster, you wouldn’t recognize most of the names on today’s roster. This roster is made up of a lot of fill in’s and young call up’s. As expected, there has been a lot of growing pains for this team. At one point, they had lost 12 straight. Recently, they finally pulled themselves out of that slump and handily won two games in a row. Time will tell if this was the spark this young team needed or if it was just some bad pitching by the Reds. Davies takes the hill for the Cubs today and he has been hit hard for almost two months; now as he has allowed two or more runs per start over his last eight starts. Davies has also been hurt by the long ball recently giving up seven bombs over his last four starts. Davies has a 5.18 home ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .276 in his home starts.
Cubs VS Royals: The Pick
This game has all the makings of bad pitching meats up and down offenses. The Royals are still left with some good bats that will be able to drive in some runs in this one. Keller has been getting hit with a lot of hard contact lately and we saw a glimpse of what they can do when that is the case. With bad pitching looking to be the theme of this game we’re going with the over 8.5
