ROCKETS VS CAVALIERS, Dec. 15

Kyle Barrette

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about what this Cavs team has been doing? Without their top guy, Sexton, I may add, The Rockets have turned things around enough that John Wall has actually given thought to playing this season. Well, that, accompanied by the fact that no one in their right mind wants to take on his massive contract. So, we look at this matchup and you think the Rockets have been playing out of their minds, how could they be this big of an underdog? Let’s break it down.

Cavs
What hasn’t been said in recent articles about this squad? The ATS record has improved. It is now an unworldly 22-5-2 which is over 81%. How do you not bet on a team that covers over 81% of the time? If you watch them play, the mix of veteran and young players is off the charts. Kevin Love looks like the Kevin Love of eight years ago, consistently knocking down threes. The defense is out of this world, locking down squad after squad. At home, the ATS is 11-3-1, still an amazing 78%. I think the main thing that has kept them this dominant is health. No one new has been added to their injury report in weeks, something almost the whole league is dealing with. This team goes out with the same squad night after night, playing their game and building chemistry.

Rockets
Rejoice! Houston fans, you are no longer the worst team in the NBA. We can now pass that torch to Detroit. The Rockets have surged back into NBA relevance by stringing together multiple wins. Now the team finds themselves being hit extremely hard by the injury bug. Reports are out that Wood is questionable for this matchup, but I can see him giving it a go. I’ll bet it’s less than 100%, but the big news is that Eric Gordon has already been ruled out for the Rockets. That is going to be a big veteran hole to fill. Gordon was the catalyst in the big comeback over Atlanta, where he dropped 32 points and led the charge back for the Rockets.

Cavs vs Rockets the Pick: Cavs -8
Don’t let the big line fool you. This game is in Cleveland, and the Rockets’ injury list is long, so they will likely want to get this game over with ASAP. The loss of Gordon is too big a blow, and with the team resting on a less than 100% Christian Woods’ shoulders, the Cavs smell blood in the water. Take the Cavs (-8).

Same Game Parlay
Cavaliers -9, Darius Garland First Basket, Darius Garland Over 20.5 Pts, Jarrett Allen Over 12.5 Rebounds, Lauri Markkanen Over 2.5 Made Threes, Cavs to win by 1-10 Pts and Houston Rockets Under 103.5 Pts.
