PIRATES VS NATIONALS JUNE 28

Kyle Barrette

It’s a new week and we’re going to start it off with a familiar face as we’re heading to Washington for today’s play. The Pirates are in town for a series that I’m sure outside of those two canvases, not many people are watching. Even though these two teams are on the fast track to nowhere this season, this game offers some lines that have been overlooked.

Pittsburgh:
Last time we highlighted the Pirates, they were doing well and had won a string of games. Well, fast forward to today, and they come into this game on a four-game losing streak. The main thing we highlighted about the Pirates was that, regardless of the outcome, this team was hitting the ball and scoring runs at a good rate. This has slowed down a little too, but that’s to be expected, especially after a three-game series with a team like the Rays. Today they are going against the batting practice machine himself, Patrick Corbin. This guy has been the definition of terrible this season. He has only three starts that you can say we’re good. Beyond that, he has allowed three or more runs in every start. Couple that with some home run issues, as he has allowed six in his last three starts, and this could be a long night.

Washington:
I speak for every baseball fan when I say Juan Soto deserves better. It’s hard to believe this team won the World Series just a few years ago. Sooner rather than later, I think they make the move that they have been dreading and get basically another team’s farm system for Soto and start the rebuild from that point. Washington faces Quintana today, who they did OK against when we had this matchup earlier this season. Washington ended up getting to Quintana for three runs, but would eventually lose the game.

Pirates vs Nationals pick: Pirates Team Total Over 3.5 Runs
The Pirates can hit and are often underrated, like today by the books. Corbin has been a dumpster fire all season and shows no signs of slowing down. Even if Corbin manages to escape with minimal damage, there is still the bad Nationals bullpen to get us over the hump.

Same Game Parlay:
Jack Suwinski to hit a HR, Ke’Bryan Hayes to record 2+ hits, Juan Soto to record 2+ hits and Soto to record an RBI.
