After a complete let down by the Guardians offense, we have one more shot to close out the week strong. We’re headed to Pittsburgh, where the Pirates are hosting the Phillies. The Phillies need all the wins they can get to battle with the Braves and the Mets at the top of their division. The Pirates are trying to stay above the Reds in last place in theirs. Which team will help their cause? Let’s break it down and find out.

It’s not all doom and gloom for this team. The league has been put on notice about some solid young players that will be on this team for a while. It’s crazy to think of the pitchers that used to be on this team and where they are now. The back end needs just as much help as the starters these days as they come in with an ERA near five. Quintana takes the hill today for Pittsburgh. The Pirates are 10-9 in his starts this season. He’s been up and down and it is tough to know what you are going to get out of him. The Pirates are going to need another solid performance because they are having a hard time hitting the ball. In seven of their last 10 games, they have scored two or fewer runs.

This team has been playing catch-up for what feels like the entire season. We have seen the pressure get to them at times and they know another underperforming season with the talent and payroll they have could mean disaster. The offense has been disappointing at times, but overall it’s been the starting pitching and having to start a guy like Falter today sheds some light on where they’re at. The home runs have been his downfall, as he has allowed seven in only six starts. His strikeout numbers are good and his walks are low, so if he can keep the ball in the yard, his team should have a good chance.

Phillies vs Pirates pick: Philadelphia ML
I don’t think the Phillies will run away with this game, but I do think they have a better chance at doing enough to get the win.

Same Game Parlay:
Phillies ML, Ke’Bryan Hayes to record 2+ hits, Kyle Schwarber to record an RBI, Nick Castellanos to record a run and Bailey Falter Over 4.5 K’s.
