PELICANS VS KNICKS, JAN. 20
It’s bounce back time as the Grizz and Lakers both fell apart in the ladder stages of their games last night. The Knicks are at somewhat of a pivotal point in their season. They were around this same record last season and decided to add pieces at the deadline and went 20-10 over the second half of the season and entered the fourth seed. Now some players have regressed, and it’s like, who do they plug into this team to give them that spark? They come into this game riding a two-game losing streak. Is a bad Pelicans team just what the doctor ordered? Let’s break down this matchup and find out.
We knew this team had issues on the defensive side of the ball, but they really did have high hopes coming into this season. Zion hasn’t seen the floor, Ingram has missed a good amount of time, and Hart is just bad. To top it all off, they still have that defense problem. The Pelicans’ offense has improved. It was great either way. They came into this game ranked 24th, only putting up 105 per contest. Defensively, they are 21st, allowing 110 per game. The Pelicans are 6-17 on the road and have lost their last five consecutive road games. This is a bad spot for the Pelicans. Struggling on the road and coming into the Garden to face a Knicks team that is in the middle of a home stand where they have dropped two straight, it’s going to be rough in there tonight.
It’s hard to look at the names on this team, think of the talent, and then think that it’s the offense that’s the issue here. The defense is still on point. The Knicks are a top five defensive team, only allowing 105 per game, but it’s the offense again that is severely limiting this team’s potential. The Knicks rank 27th in points scored per game, at 104 per contest. As we touched on earlier, they were at the same point last year and went out and signed a few players. This season they went out and got Cam Reddish early to try and inject some offense back into this team, but he has yet to see the floor. Hopefully, him and the return of Derrick Rose are the combinations they need to get some life back into this offense.
Knicks vs. Pelicans the Pick: Knicks -4
Look for the Knicks to break through here. Losing back-to-back games at the Garden doesn’t sit well with anyone. They played well in both games but left the door open for their opponents, and it cost them. Look for them to slam the door shut tonight and take the Knicks -4.
