NETS VS ROCKETS APRIL 5

Kyle Barrette

It’s a sad yet exciting time of the year. The NBA regular season is all but over, but that means the playoffs are about to begin. The last few games can usually be a minefield with all the players being rested or scratched because of random injuries, but with this one it doesn’t look like we will have to wait for any of that. This is the Nets and Rockets game. So who has the edge here? Let’s break it down and find out.

Nets:
We all know the Nets are projected to win the East and compete for the title. While the first part did not happen, the latter might still have a shot. The Nets are going to be playing in the play-in tournament. A year full of vaccine drama and injuries derailed this team’s number one dreams. Which brings us to tonight’s game. The Nets are a 17-point favorite. No, that’s not a typo. The Nets will roll out their full starting line-up as they try to avoid having to play two games to get into the playoffs. I get the difference in skill levels on both teams, but I’ve also seen these Rockets sneak up on people and you want to give a team that doesn’t play defense 17 points!

Rockets:
For the team they are putting on the floor, these guys deserve credit for keeping a lot of these games close. A casual sports bettor would write this team off, say they stink, and bet on the Nets. Take some time and look at how overvalued the Nets have been since before the season even started. If you look at the Rockets’ last 10-15 games, this spread has been covered against teams that are better than the Nets. Just a few days ago, they pushed the Timberwolves, a playoff team who has been putting up big numbers, to the limit.

Nets vs Rockets Prediction: Rockets +17
Now Houston could have a bad shooting game and this number could become a reality. I’m not seeing that because of the excuse that the Nets often play on defense. Bad defensive teams against teams with a high pace often struggle. The Timberwolves were a preview of what we could see here; a good offensive team with a bad defense trying to slow down the fastest pace in the league.
