Things are at an all-time low for the Pelicans. The team is 1-11 and there are now whispers of whether or not they should fire their head coach 12 games into the season. The Pelicans were one of the league’s top offenses last season, so this is a very long fall from grace. To make things worse, the Pelicans who were already shorthanded with Zion out to start the season now have to play games without their other star in Brandon Ingram. The only good news for Pelicans fans is there really is nowhere to go but up.

The Nets came into the season as the favorites to win the title and got off to a bit of an average start. Alternating wins and losses throughout the first eight games of the season, the Nets seem to have turned a corner of sorts and have won six of their last seven games. Their offense continues to produce even without one of the NBA’s top players in Kyrie Irving who has been away from the team since the start of the season. The defense for the Nets is an area in which they sought to improve from last season and so far, have been able to do so. Holding opponents below 110 points per game in all eight of their wins is a solid starting point for this team and their prolific offense.

The season has just started and sadly already this feels like it has the makings of a lost season for the Pelicans. Ingram looks to be back soon, but it’s been shown that he can’t do it alone and Zion nears a return, but we know they won’t rush him back to a team that’s already 1-11. Once all hands are on deck, I’m sure we will see a more competitive Pelicans team, but for now it’s pretty ugly. This team has lost eight games in a row and four of the last five losses have come by double digits. Currently, this offense ranks at the bottom of the league in points scored per game at just over 100. Their defense ranks in the exact same spot, a recipe for disaster against a team that is built like the Nets.

Nets vs Pelicans the Pick: Nets -7.5 This spread seems small to me considering how each team is trending. It’s possible that the books are not buying this improved Nets defense or that we may see some players sit for Brooklyn. Either way there is nothing indicating the Pelicans will be able to hang around here. Take the Nets -7.5.
