NBA BEST BETS, JAN. 19
After suffering through a night with almost no basketball, we get almost the entire league playing today, so naturally we’re coming up with our top two plays for today’s huge slate. We’ve got a couple of east coast-west coast matchups; who’s got the edge? Let’s break them down and find out.
The Bucks are a great team, but they are just 3-6 in the month of January, while the Grizzlies are 8-1. Now this Grizzlies team will be without Bane and Brooks, but this is a team that has played thoroughly and played well. I may add that with Morant being hurt and all of the COVID protocols, they are prepared. It’s been alternating between offense and defense as to which side of the ball is letting the Bucks down. For example, in the last game, the Hawks outscored the Bucks by 19 in the second half, clearly highlighting some defensive issues for the Bucks. The game before that, the Bucks offense was missing, only putting up 99 in a losing effort against Toronto. Bane has been one of their better three-point shooters, but this is one of the top five offenses in the league, so they will continue to put up points, especially if the Bucks falter on defense. Take the Grizzlies +6.5 Points in what should be a close game.
Westbrook, is that you? Did we finally see Westbrook, or did we forget he was playing basketball? Call me crazy, but I think this could have been the spark LA needed. LeBron is great and all, but he needs another star and we all saw how things were going when Malik Monk was the second-best player on this team. The Pacers have a handful of injuries beyond their starting five, so expect Melo to return for this game as well. Indiana is really thin. Now, the Lakers are a .500 team, but they do have a 15-11 home record, which isn’t bad, but the Pacers are one of the worst road teams we’ve seen in a long time. Indiana sits at 3-17 on the road this season. This is like feeding someone to the wolves. When you take a terrible road team and feed them to a team hungry for wins that is starting to accumulate, it does not look good for the Pacers.
