Mets Vs Giants: Battle by the Bay, Aug. 18

The Mets will continue their West Coast road trip as they wrap up their series with the Giants. The Mets have been playing inconsistent baseball since the break going 13-19, but the real trouble has been when they go on the road, just 4-9 since the break and are 1-7 in their eight road games in August. Can the Mets finally gets some much needed road wins in order to stay in playoff contention? Will the Giants just continue to pile up wins on their way to a truly unexpected divisional title?

Mets: There’s No Place like Home
Struggling is politely putting it when describing how the Mets have played on the road lately. It’s a glaring weakness in a team that had high expectations coming into the season and even higher when they were square in the playoff race and they went out and got a guy like Javier Baez, but things are quickly falling apart and Baez is currently on the DL. The Mets are hitting a scarce .233 on the road this season and things get worse as they will be going against a guy in DeSclafani that they have not been able to figure out only hitting .156 with 39 at bats. Megill gets the nod for the Mets today and he started the season on fire but has come back down to earth lately getting hit hard over his last three starts. He has allowed 12 runs and three homers in his last three starts, and you guessed it the homers came in the road starts and so did nine of the 12 runs.

Giants: Unexpected Surprise
It must be a great feeling in this Giants’ clubhouse, knowing that absolutely no one picked you to be in contention to win the division, yet pretty much the whole season they have owned the top spot in the NL West and show no signs of slowing down. The Giants are 8-2 in their last 10 and are currently 6-1 on their nine-game home stand. The Giants have been almost unbeatable at home this season as they sit a ridiculous 23 games above .500 at home at 41-18. DeSclafani has been an anchor at home all season holding opponents to a .245 batting average and piling up a   6-2 record while the Giants have gone 7-2 in his home starts. The Mets are struggling mightily against righties in the month of August they rank 27th against righties only hitting .216.

Mets VS Giants: The Pick, Giants ML
The oddsmakers are giving the Mets a fair amount of credit here as they are only a small dog and we know they struggle on the road and their playing in the lion’s den known as Oracle Park. There is just nothing here that makes me want to back this Mets team take the Giants ML currently at -145, and hurry as it will most likely balloon closer to game time.
