We start the week with a matchup featuring two teams that are currently heading in opposite directions. We’re heading to San Diego, where the Padres are hosting the Mariners. The Mariners dominated game one of the series. Can they continue their winning ways? Or can the Padres stop the bleeding? Let’s break down both sides and find out.

Seattle is 7-3 in their last ten games and have won three straight. The pitching has played the biggest part in those seven wins, as they have only allowed 13 runs across all seven of those games, allowing them to win a couple of close ones. Gilbert is on the mound today for Seattle. The Mariners have done extremely well in games where Gilbert has started, as they are 6-1 in his last seven starts. Gilbert has been a little shaky over his last two starts, allowing a combined seven runs and four homers. Expect to see Gilbert go deep into the game as he has pitched six or more innings in almost every start since mid-May.

The Padres are hitting a rough patch right now as they’re 3-7 in their last 10 games. Injuries are not helping this offense, but the pitching has been uncharacteristically bad. They have allowed five or more runs in five of their last seven losses. There has been one bright spot in the rotation, and it happens to be the man on the mound today, Mike Clevinger. The Padres have won all six of Clevinger’s starts since he returned, and he has been solid during them. He allowed three runs in each of his first two starts, but since then has allowed two runs, and three of the four starts were one-hitters. He was able to work six innings in his last outing. We’ll see how many he does today, but it looks like he’s not on a restriction.

Padres vs Mariners Pick: Padres ML.
Despite the injuries, I think this Padres offense can get a couple runs across. This will be a low scoring game, but the Padres will pull out a close one as Clevinger shines again.

Same Game Parlay:
Padres ML, Mike Clevinger  Over 5.5 K’s, Eric Hosmer to record 2+ hits, Luke Voit to record an RBI and Jurickson Profar to record a run.
