LAKERS VS CELTICS, NOV. 19
The Lakers continue to stumble as they have lost two straight. They played the defending champs well and were only down a bucket heading into the fourth but came up short. There has to be growing optimism for this team that has struggled without their leader in Lebron. His status was upgraded to “questionable” for this game. Do the Lakers have what it takes to come out of the baby garden with a win? Let’s break it down and find out.
This will be game two of the Lakers’ five-game east coast road trip. This could be a bad spot for the Lakers. Coming off a loss and then having to travel all night and play back-to-back in a hostile environment like Boston is not going to be an easy task for them. Not to mention the multiple time zone differences that throws them off as well. Outside of a victory over the Spurs and scraping together two overtime wins, the Lakers have lost all of their other five games in that span. The Lakers sit in the top 10 on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 109 points per game, while their defense needs a lot of improvement as they are near last at 28th. If LA can tighten up their defense down low, they have a good shot at evening up their road trip.
The Celtics’ recent loss to the Hawks dipped them back below .500. This is about where they sit in the rankings on both sides of the ball, right below the middle of the pack. Boston might be the beneficiary of a bad spot for the Lakers, who have played the least number of road games in the league and have not done well with them, going 1-3. Dealing with injuries to Brown and Williams, the Celtics have, for the most part, alternated wins and losses for the month of November. The early locker room issues seem to be a thing of the past, and now they’re trying to stay afloat through injuries. The offensive woes continue to mount as they have failed to cross the century mark in their last three games. A good spot against a bad defense might be the spark they need to get things back on track.
Boston vs Lakers the Pick: Boston ML
With everything considered, this is going to be a tough spot for LA. I would be surprised if they brought Lebron back on the second night of a back-to-back in a travel game where his impact would be limited. On top of that, Boston plays with a different type of energy at home that will be too much for LA to handle in this spot. Take Boston.
