We’re heading to the western conference for today’s game with two teams on opposite ends of the standings, but they share some similar trends that will help us cash in today’s play. The Jazz will look to remain unbeaten after they were able to pull away from Denver in the fourth quarter to notch their third win of the season. Houston came through with a blowout win to start the season, but it has been back-to-back 10-point losses for this young Rockets team and it won’t get any easier in this game.

The Rockets have come out firing in the first half of their games. Houston has either led or been down by one possession in the first half of all their games this season. Halftime adjustments have been the downfall of this team, to say the least. Over their last two losses, they have been outscored by 9.5 points in the second half. Houston currently ranks 17th in the league in scoring at 108 points per game. While ranking 16th in defense, allowing 109.5 points per game, the interesting stat and the one that will determine the outcome of this game is Houston’s three-point shooting offense. They rank second at just over 40% and Utah’s three-point defense that ranks number one at only 25%.

Utah finally faced a decent opponent, and for a while it appeared that they might lose, until a near-perfect fourth quarter allowed them to come away with a 12-point victory. Utah has been impressive to start the season. Almost all of their wins have come by double digits. Utah once again boasts one of the best defenses in the league, coming in at number one in three-point defense and number five in scoring defense. Utah also ranks eighth in offensive rebounds per game, allowing for a lot of second-chance points. Their offense has been good but not as prolific as it was last season. Utah currently ranks 11th in points per game with 113.

Utah vs Houston the Pick: Under 222.5
A few things are going into this one. Starting with the fact that these two teams are 1-6 on the overs this season. Next, the Jazz are a substantially better team, so I believe their top rated three-point defense will greatly slow down the scoring of this Rockets team that loves to shoot it deep and will struggle to get points down low as well. Lastly, this could also be a little bit of a look ahead game for Utah. Granted, they don’t play their next opponents in a back-to-back, but next up they have unbeaten Chicago and the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. This could take them a little bit out of this game, thus resulting in a little less offense.
