Last week was a week to forget, but luckily that is in the past and we are ready to start a new win streak. There is a spot tonight with a line that seems a bit off and it is centered around some guys that are questionable. We are looking at the game between the Jazz and the Clippers. We saw Bogdanovic miss the game with the Mavs, and Gobert was a very late scratch. The Jazz actually controlled the game for the entire first half but got destroyed in the second. The line move that came after Gobert was announced out demonstrated the amount of value he had in that game. Prior to the news, the Jazz were a one-to-two-point favorite, depending on which book you read. After the news came out that he was out, the Jazz plummeted to a four-point underdog, a five-to-six-point swing. Is it time for some redemption tonight? Let’s break this matchup down.

It’s been tough sledding for the Clippers lately, losers of their last five and blowout victims in four of those losses. One of those losses was against this Jazz team, a game where the Clippers lost by 29 and the Jazz didn’t even have Mitchell or Bogdanovic playing. With how bad the Lakers are, the Clippers are basically locked into the eight or nine seed and will have a shot at playing in the tournament. The poor play is indicative of how bad the team’s offense is without George and Leonard, but it could also be some guys trying to stay healthy in case those two are ready for a return during the playoffs. It would be easier if we could point to one thing and identify it as the Clippers’ issue, but it’s honestly both sides of the ball. In four of their last five games, they have allowed 120+ points in all four, and in three of them they scored only 100 or less. When you have a point discrepancy of 20, clearly, you’re not going to win many games. This game’s line is currently being held hostage. I lean toward thinking he probably does not play since people just got word that he was doing five-on-five drills. It would seem like a big step from no news to game action, and if he does see action, I wouldn’t expect a ton of minutes and you can expect some rust.

A for effort when it came to their game against the Mavs. With all the injuries, the Jazz were not able to mix their starters with their bench as they were used to, and their scoring suffered. I think both of these guys are going to end up playing tonight. The Jazz were very late to scratch for a bruise that has since had a few days to heal, and the Jazz are on the fringe of falling into the play-in tournament, so they need to keep winning. Bogy has already missed extended time and with his position being upgraded from out, I would expect him to play. Those guys in the lineup make this team flow so much smoother. The starting lineup is obviously good, but how they are rotated into the bench lineups makes it so this team never lets off the gas, which is why you have seen Utah win a lot of games in the past few seasons. The Jazz offense has clearly struggled with the combination of injuries and four straight losses, barely breaking the century mark, which would explain why this line is where it is.

Jazz vs Clippers Pick: Jazz +1
The value is clearly on Utah here. You have a team that we expect to be at or near full strength against a team that has essentially waved the white flag for the rest of the regular season that might be getting a player back that has been out for three months. Even if everything turned south and everyone sat out, the Jazz still have enough to get the job done as the Clippers are not the full-strength Mavericks. Take Utah plus the point before the line moves.
