As usually happens in Week Two of the NCAA football season, many games featured powerhouse schools beating up on non-conference schools that were just happy to be there: #1 ranked Alabama crushing Mercer, #2 Georgia hammering UAB, #4 Oklahoma blowing out Western Carolina, #8 Notre Dame…well…just barely beating Toledo on a late TD pass and #15 Texas…oh, Texas…

Games that were expected to be more competitive actually were so – #10 Iowa edged #9 Iowa State, #12 Oregon upset #3 Ohio State in Columbus, BYU won this year’s “Holy War”, edging out in-state rivals #21 Utah and #14 USC was upset at home by Pac 12 Conference rivals Stanford, a disheartening loss that cost Trojans Head Coach Clay Helton his job just two games into the season.

A few schools make their debut in the AP Top 25 this week including Arkansas, Arizona State, Michigan and BYU. Of course, just as many schools have fallen out of the rankings as well including Utah, the aforementioned USC and Texas…oh, Texas. Somewhere in a remote desert locale, Ricky Williams is sitting in his yurt with a single tear spilling onto his rolling papers as he ruminates on the state of his college team.

The schedule features more than a few games for bettors to pay attention to. A classic SEC rivalry is renewed as Alabama travels to The Swamp to face #13 Florida (+14.5), and an interesting inter-conference powerhouse clash happens when #22 Auburn goes on the road to face #10 Penn State (-5) at the second-largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere, Beaver Stadium.  This may also be the first time in history that Wake Forest had an undefeated record (just 2-0, but still…) and were favored against a Florida State team that was still without a win.
