HEAT VS PISTONS, NOV. 23

Kyle Barrette

The Pistons were finally fed up with their losing ways and the team has won three of its last four games. The Heat recently had their four-game winning streak snapped when they got edged by the Wizards. This game has a massive double-digit spread, so do the Pistons even have a chance to win or cover? Let’s break it down and find out.

Pistons
Detroit finally got things going with 75% of their season’s wins coming over the past week and a half. Not only that, the Pistons finally found a bit of offense as well. Detroit has gone over the century mark in five of their last seven games. The Pistons now sit at .500 on the season when it comes to their team totals in points. With totals around the NBA being the lowest in decades, it is hard to find teams that can put up points on a consistent basis. Right now, there are only seven teams in the league that have a higher over percentage than under percentage. Detroit’s recent uptick in offense and still sluggish defense puts a bright spot on their totals moving forward.

Heat
Miami had been rolling with everyone back in the fold before they lost to Washington in their last matchup. Miami has hit the century mark in seven straight games, a feat this season that has become the benchmark for points. Miami has one of the better ranked defenses in the NBA, but they have allowed 105 or more points in five of their last nine games. The Heat are also one of the seven teams we mentioned before that have a higher percentage of over-under games. Miami is second in the NBA to the over at 10-7, or 58%. The Heat also allow seven points more per game on the road, and with this game being at the Palace, there is a good chance for these trends to continue.

Heat vs Pistons the Pick: Over 208
These two teams have overwhelming trends that point to this game going over. With only eight teams at .500 or better in terms of over percentage, these matchups don’t come around often this season. Look for the trends to continue and take the over points at 208.
