Portland Trailblazers

Hangover Monday, Feb. 22

I liked to call the last few days, “the weekend of off-beat sports.” There were some major events going on in sports that I usually wouldn’t let someone pay me to watch. And hey, I have absolutely no disrespect towards tennis, but it isn’t a 350 pound man trucking another 350 pound man.

Regardless, the Australian Open took center stage over the last few weeks and it came to a halt this weekend. Supposedly there is a new phenom who told Serena to get the fuck out of her way and that’s what the goddess of tennis did.

Noami Osaka dominated in her way to picking up an Australian Open and it was actually interesting to watch. Osaka was a -150 favorite to beat Serena but that match went down to the wire, like it was maybe more entertaining than this year’s Super Bowl. Osaka made most bettors pretty upset as 69 percent of bets were placed on Serena to win in the underdog spot and it just didn’t happen. Nice. Then in the Championship Match, it really wasn’t even interesting. Osaka was a -400 favorite and she cruised to a win.

Unsurprisingly, Novak Djokovic won another Australian Open, it’s his ninth and honestly that just doesn’t get spoken about enough. He was only a -115 favorite in the championship which is absolutely disrespectful and absolutely whooped some ass in three straight sets. I am not a tennis guy, but I’ll admit, pretty entertaining stuff this weekend.

If you have any sort of presence on golf Twitter, you know who Max Homa is. This dude will roast anyone and everyone who tweets at him with a golf swing video. If you post a video of your 2-year-old swinging a club, he will tell you that you should’ve worn a condom. The funny thing is that he’s a PGA Golfer but had just one pro win coming into this weekend. He was a +6000 bet at the Genesis Open and he took this thing all the way into a playoff to win it. One bettor at PointsBet had an insane sequence of wagers on him. He had $500 on Homa to win at 60-1, $1,000 on Homa to win at 60-1. $10,000 on Homa T-40 finish at +110. He walked away with over $100 thousand.

Side Golf Note: Tiger Woods had another back surgery recently and spoke with Jim Nantz this weekend. Tiger said he is hoping to be back in time for the Masters. If there is something that can get me absolutely torqued on a Monday, it’s thinking about betting on Tiger at Augusta.

Football

PRIME TIME. FCS Football is a go and Deion Sanders made his head coaching debut on Sunday. Jackson State took on the Edward Waters Tigers which tells you everything you need to know. Coach Prime RAN the score up in this one, winning 53-0. If they open up as 30 point favorites in this next game, you better book that.

NBA

There were a couple really good NBA games this weekend and the Brooklyn, Los Angeles contest capped it off on Sunday. The Nets were +225 underdogs but stole a win in Hollywood. 75 percent of the bets were placed on Brookylyn making them a very profitable side gig for the weekend.

The most epic collapse came from the Celtics. Boston was just a -2.5 favorite but at one point had a 24-point lead in the second half. The Pelicans made their largest comeback in franchise history, forced overtime and closed them out. BRUTAL.

MLB

Pitchers and catchers reported last week so we won’t actually have to talk about baseball until I start LIVE betting Spring Training games like the piece of garbage I am, but can we talk about how the Dodgers win line for 2021 opened up at 103.5. The next closest to them is the Yankees at 95.5. That is insane.

Free-Play

Suns/ Blazers OVER 227

This one is easy. Both teams are shooting really well and I wouldn’t mess around with Dame right now. Total has hit the OVER in four of Portland’s last six and in five of Phoenix’s last six.
