GRIZZLIES VS CLIPPERS, NOV. 18
The Clippers look to even the season series when they travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. After Chicago snapped the Clippers’ seven game winning streak, the Clippers began a new one after a 14-point win over the Spurs. Memphis finally snapped their three-game losing streak by defeating the Rockets by a score of 34-points. So which team keeps their win streak alive? Let’s break down this matchup.
We all know that all roads go through Ja Morant for the Memphis offense. Against this team, though, it’s going to take more than just another terrific performance from Ja to get the job done. This is not the same Clippers team that the Grizzlies saw just a few weeks ago at the beginning of the season when they were trying to figure things out without Leonard. Things haven’t exactly been looking great for this Memphis club heading into this one. Before the Rockets game, they had lost three straight, including one to the Pelicans, who have just been a disaster this season. They weren’t close games either. They lost all three by double digits, and before that, they had to head to OT to beat the Timberwolves, and they had another double-digit loss to the Wizards. They rank last in the league in allowing the most points to opponents. They are going to need to step it up in order to make it 2-0 against the Clippers.
The Clippers’ bounce back win against the Spurs showed that 1, the Spurs are not that good and 2, this team has good veteran leadership from the coach all the way down through the team. Paul George and Ja Morant will be on center stage in this one, but it’s Paul’s supporting cast that gives the Clippers the upper hand here. The Clippers have not played many games on the road this season and sit at .500 in the games they have played, winning the last two. While they haven’t been thoroughly road tested, this team has shown how impressive they can be. The Clippers come into this matchup 12th in the league in scoring at 108 points a game and are anchored by the 5th ranked defense, allowing only 102. It’s a tall task, but if they can slow down Morant, this game will be trouble for the Grizzlies. Given the state of their defense, they won’t be able to keep up.
Grizzlies vs Clippers the Pick: Clippers ML
One win over the league’s worst team isn’t enough to mask the bad five-game skid the Grizzlies were on. Double digit losses and barley cracking the century mark won’t get it done against this Clippers defense. The Grizzlies won’t be able to keep up in this one. Take the Clippers.
