Degens Only: Wednesday Plays – May 19

It’s the most frightening thing that can happen in baseball. A guy getting hit in the head. New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar was struck in the face from a pitch thrown by Braves reliever Jacob Webb. Pillar was sent to the 10 day DL after x rays reviled multiple nose fractures. Pillar said he feels really good considering the incident in a statement he released Tuesday. Pillar stated he holds nothing against Webb and he does not think that the pitch was anything intended. Webb knees buckled after seeing Pillar go down and had to be consoled in the dugout after. We wish Pillar a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon. One thing that is never on the DL and that is today’s top plays let’s get into it.

Chef Curry: Warriors +5.5

I think you know where we are going with this one just by the title. The Lakers are just trying to keep everything from collapsing. The shortened offseason maybe has caught up and plagued this team with injuries at the wrong time and while their starters are out there you know they are not 100%. While Golden State and LA both come in on winning streaks, it’s the Warriors last month of games that is a lot more impressive. They have beaten the teams you would expect them to and they have done it in blow out fashion.  They beat a few of the top contenders along the way and have won seven of their last eight. While the Lakers come in on a five game winning streak, their health is an obvious question mark and most wonder if the depth will be enough to get them all the way this year. The Lakers wins are a little less impressive as they lost to some of the division’s bottom dwellers and had a lot closer games than the Warriors against the division’s top contenders. I think LA finds a way to take this one, but I think it stays really close. Take the Warriors +5.5

In Ja We Trust: Grizzlies -4
I have been a Ja Morant fan since his Murry State days, and I love that he is in this spot to showcase what he can do.  The Grizz come into this game on a roll and I know that is going to be important with this young team going up against the veteran Spurs. Even though San Antonio has been struggling mightily this month, it’s never wise to count out a veteran team in situations such as these. Seeing as a majority of the top teams have been hammering the Spurs this past month, it would be wise for them to try and win this game and face the lowest seed possible. I think the Grizz will come in focused and continue the way they have been playing. The Grizz had the Spurs number blowing them out in their two meetings this season by 17 and 31. There is just too much ground to be made up from 17 and 31 to 4. Take the Grizzlies to cover -4.

Boston, Bats, and Blue Jays: Red Sox/Jays over 10.5
I really like this spot as I don’t think the books can put out an attractive enough number that is high enough for this game. The Blue Jays have been hitting everything lately, and we all know Boston has one of if not the top offense in the league. Especially with the Sox bats being silenced last night, you know they will be ready to go tonight. These two offenses will likely not be contained when Richards and Stripling take the hill. Stripling has allowed multiple runs in every one of his starts this season. Richards has been 50/50 lately, but against a hot Blue Jays offense at home where they have scored five or more runs in nine of their 15 home games. This game has the makings of a track meet. Take the over 10.5

Giant Problem: Giants ML -118
The books still will not give this team the respect that they have earned so far this season and that’s fine we will continue to cash in on the plus money and small favorites. The golden rule is in effect here and that is you never go against a streak in baseball and we don’t intend to do that here. Gausman takes the hill for the Giants and he has been a stud this season his only game where he allowed more than one run was in fact against these Reds. Times have changed since then and neither of these teams is the same team that they were at the time of that game and you can bet Gausman will be looking to correct the only blemish on his otherwise stellar season. Miley has been up and down this season and he did have his best outing of the year against the Giants allowing only two hits and no runs, but he has shown no consistency in keeping those numbers up. This game is going to be a gritty close one and could come down to the wire but I like the Giants to keep the wins coming. Take the Giants ML.
