Degens Only: Wednesday Plays, Aug. 11
A wise man once told me, “Say yes to the opportunity and figure out the details later.” Someone should have told Dennis Schroder this advice as he just lost a lot of money. Schroder rejected a four year 80+ million dollar deal with the Lakers earlier in the offseason and now the Lakers are no longer interested in extending that offer. Things get worse for Schroder as the best deal he could get now was a one year five million dollar deal with the Celtics. This just goes to show kids, don’t get greedy and know your value. Speaking of value the top four plays for today are listed below let’s get into it.
Big Cub: Brewers ML
The Brewers have owned the Cubs this season to say the least, the head to head matchup sits at 10-3 – advantage Brewers. Burnes takes to the hill and the crew have had great success in his starts going 8-2 in his last 10. In those 10 starts, Burnes has only allowed more than one run twice. It is the complete opposite for Jake Arrieta who takes the hill for the Cubs. The Cubs are 1-9 in his last 10 starts and have lost the last seven straight. Arrieta has allowed multiple runs in all of those starts besides one. In Burnes lone start against the Cubs this season, he threw six scoreless and only allowed two hits. These are two teams heading in two complete different directions and this head to head matchup has been really one sided, take the Brew Crew to notch on another win in this series.
New Pair of Sox: White Sox F5 -.5
This White Sox team has started to get on a roll again and that just means get out of the way as fast as possible. Unfortunately, for the Twins they can’t get out of the way of this one. Cy Young hopeful Lance Lynn takes the hill for the Sox and he has been all but unhittable a majority of the season. This will be his fifth start against the Twins this season and in his prior four starts; he has only allowed a combined five runs. Ober takes the hill for the Twins and he has been on the downswing as of late as he has allowed multiple runs in four of his last five starts. He has also been struggling with the long ball as he has allowed six homers in those last five starts. Ober has faced the Sox four times as well and he has allowed four runs in three of four of those starts. With this Sox team hitting the way they have been and Lynn on the mound this one has Sox written all over it, take them -.5 for the F5.
Shine on: Rays TT over 4
The Rays have also been surging lately and Eovaldi well he definitely has seen better days. The Sox have lost his last five starts and it will not get easier as he will face one of the top teams in the league to try and get back on track. He has seen the Rays twice this season and has had mixed results. Earlier in the season when he was rolling, he went seven strong and allowed only one run. In his most recent start against the Rays he allowed six across five innings. Eovaldi has allowed five or more runs in three of his last five starts and has surrendered four homers. Fleming goes for the Rays and he has had mediocre results against the Sox as he has seen them twice and has allowed three runs in each outing. This is more of a play on the struggling Eovaldi, allowing six and seven runs is a huge correction to make and the Sox bullpen has been on a slippery slope as well in a small park like Fenway, the Rays should put up some runs. Take the Rays team total over 4.
Ring the Bell: Phillies F5 +.5
For some reason this Dodgers lineup is seemingly less scary than it was a year ago. On the flip side, this Phillies team has been smoking everyone and slamming the ball all over the field. The Dodgers have lost six straight starts by Price in fact the team is only 4-11 in Prices starts this season. Gibson is going for the Phillies and outside of two bad starts against the Tigers he has been solid all season. The Phillies haven’t always been able to give Gibson the run support to win his starts but the way they have been swinging the bats that could change quickly here. Give me the hot team and the free half run insurance here and take the Phillies F5 +.5.
