Degens Only: Wednesday Plays, April 21

The start of the draft is now less than 10 days away and personally the first two days are always the best way to officially start the countdown to the NFL season. Call me crazy, but in 10 years this QB class will be looked at as one of the best we’ve seen in a long time. We could realistically see the first four picks of the draft all be QB’s and we could have six go within the first 15 or less picks. It will be interesting to see what QB is made the face of each franchise, but speaking of faces let’s get some Ben Franklin’s in your pocket with today’s plays.

Still King: Royals F5

Like the old saying, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Junis is scheduled to take the hill for the Royals and he has been on point so far this season, only allowing two runs in his three starts. Wacha goes for the Rays and he has struggled so far in his first three starts, allowing seven runs over 20 innings pitched. The Royals have hit him well over his career holding a .281 batting average over 57 at bats. The Royals lineup is dangerous and it shows as they rank 12th against righties. The Rays will be stuck battling Junis who is in the midst of a breakout season and Tampa ranks near the bottom at 19th against RHP. Take the Royals in the F5.

Rotten Apple: Braves F5

Well, I can say I never thought the Yankees season would be looking like this at this point. While I think everyone thought they would be better it’s just crazy how often guys on this team are hurt.  It’s sad to say, but it seems like every season for the past three to four years a good handful of the same guys get hurt and this team is already on the same track this year. Their lineup has lost its thunder and the runs have gone with it. They have scored over three runs in one game over their last six games. With a nickname of the Bronx Bombers, you’re going to have to do better than that. For this game, it should be more of the same as they send old man Kluber to the mound who has looked lost and gotten hit hard several times this season and could very likely be the case in this one with this unforgiving Braves lineup. As for New York, their injury ridden lineup gets the young hard throwing Anderson. I just have no confidence in the Yankees to score runs here to back what Kluber will probably allow. Take Atlanta F5.

Golden Halo’s: Angles Team Total Over

The Angels, another team with a solid lineup from top to bottom, get a dream matchup today against Foltynewicz. Folty has been terrible this season and against this lineup, things are for sure not going to turn around here. Folty is 0-3 and has an ERA that is pushing six so far this year. He has been tagged for 12 runs over his three starts and the Rangers have lost all of those games. Facing a loaded Angles team that is second in the league against RHP hitting over .260 is not a good place to try and turn around a struggling pitcher. The Angels send Quintana to the hill, his numbers on the year are not much better then Folty but he has been extremely effective against these Rangers in his career. He has only allowed a .107 BAA over 30 at bats and not to mention Texas is ranked 25th against LHP hitting just over .200. The money line in this one is going to be juiced to the gills, so take the Angles team total over.

Don’t Lament: Padres Money Line This game will mark the season debut of Dinelson Lament, normally I stay away from guys making their season debut until I see how they have come back from their injury, but I was high on Lament last season and he did have a strong season. With the offense to back him and a guy on the other side that has been up and down a little so far this year, this doesn’t feel as big of a risk as it normally would with a guy making his debut. Ride the Lament train take the Padres ML.
