Degens Only: Wednesday Plays, Mar. 17

It was a wild day in the sports world yesterday. Let’s hit the rewind button and go over some of the top headlines. LeBron James is now part owner of the Red Sox, and no that’s not a typo; you’re reading that correctly. The national bank of the New England Patriots was open for business again when they inked Hunter Henry to a three-year deal. It was Dame time in Portland as the Blazers came back from 17 down in the fourth quarter and were able to secure the comeback after one of the craziest nine second sequences you will probably see this season. Deshaun Watson was in the news for alleged misconduct, and it was confirmed.  He is now facing a lawsuit. Let’s end this recap with some good news; Sister Jean is heading to Indianapolis to cheer on her ramblers during the upcoming NCCA tournament. The 101-year-old Ramblers super fan is vaccinated and has been approved to watch the games in person.  Watch out tourney teams Sister Jean is coming! Now for some more good news lets breakdown todays plays.

Nothing but Nets: Nets +2

James Harden has shed the fat suit as the Nets are on a serious roll and it’s even scarier that their doing it all without KD.  The Nets have won 13 of their last 14 games and in this one they get a Pacers team that is 3-7 in their last 10 and that they beat by 10 a few weeks ago. The Nets own the number one EFG % in the league at 59%, meaning they are the best team in the NBA at converting their possessions into points. Indiana makes their living inside the paint. Brooklyn’s defense hasn’t been the best this season, but it has improved a fair amount lately and if they can slow down the attack inside the paint this game is a wrap, and it could be another 10+ point victory for Brooklyn. Either way take the Nets to get the cover here as their offense is going to be too much for the Pacers to handle. Brooklyn +2.

Fear These Deer: Bucks -5.5

Sometimes it’s just bad spots that lead to bad games and I think we’re going to get both in this one. The Bucks are the second-best offense behind Utah per net rating and it’s been on full display, since the all-star break the Bucks have scored 125+ in each game. Each game since the break they have covered this spread and two of the three were double digit wins. The Sixers are going to have a hard time slowing down this Bucks team without Embiid in the middle. Combine Embiid’s injury with a team that played last night, and that needed a heroic effort to complete a fourth quarter comeback, you’re left with a tired Philadelphia team that will have no answer for the Greek Freak. Look for the Bucks to capitalize on Phillies tired legs, take the Bucks -5.5.

Cool Canadians: Canadiens money line

This will be the sixth meeting between these two teams, and so far the Jets hold a narrow 3-2 series lead. Montreal has turned into the more dominant team and the last two matchups have started to reflect that. Montreal has outscored the Jets 11-3 over their last two matchups. Montreal is outperforming their expected metrics for goals scored and goals allowed. The Canadians are also converting 18% more of their highly dangerous scoring chances. Montreal should be able to continue to limit goals as their facing a familiar opponent and they have allowed over two goals in only one of their last five games. Take the Canadiens to limit scoring opportunities and skate to a win. MTL ML.

Jokes on You: Nikola Jokic over 26.5 points

The Joker has been on a tear the entire month of March, and that is good for a Nuggets team that has benefited from the all-stars play as the team has won five of their six games so far this month. Jokic has taken it up a notch for March, averaging 30 points per game so far this month. He should see plenty of opportunity in this one given the way he has been leading this Nuggets team so far this month.  Take the Joker to ball out in this one and score over 26.5 points.
