Degens Only: Wednesday Plays, Feb. 25

Usually we like to keep things cynical and enjoyable here, but we need to be serious for a second and send prayers out to Tiger Woods and his family. The golf legend was involved in a single car roll over crash Tuesday morning and had to be extracted from the car using the Jaws of Life. Woods was transported to UCLA Medical Center to undergo surgery on reported compound fractures in his leg and a shattered ankle. Get well soon Tiger our prayers are with you.

I’m convinced Devin Booker is just not allowed to play in the All-Star game. Booker was snubbed again this year. It shows how much of a popularity contest the All-Star selection has become when a player that has missed a good chunk of games, like Kyrie, gets voted to the starting lineup, and a guy that has been nothing but the undoubted leader on his team in Booker gets the snub. Booker is solid and has been the definition of an All-Star for years now.  Keep grinding Devin.  One of these seasons, you will get the spot you deserve. We split yesterday’s slate going 2-2.  Let’s get into today’s top four and go for the sweep!

Maybe Next Time Miami: Miami Hurricanes Team Total Under 65

This one is like big brother meets little brother. FSU is clearly the big brother in this rivalry. It’s going to take a heroic effort from the Hurricanes in this one to come out with the win. Miami had four players out heading into their last game and lost another starter during it. Miami’s leading scorer went down in their game with Georgia Tech and while he is expected to take the floor in this one he can almost certainly not be 100%. The lack of firepower has started to show over the course of the Hurricanes last few games as they barley crossed the 60-point threshold and one of those was against Notre Dame and their 138 ranked defense. It is going to be tough for Miami to put points on the board in this one when they are down so many players and considering that when these two teams met back in January   with those players still healthy the Hurricanes could only put up 59 points. Miami has had a hard time scoring all season; they rank in the bottom 10 teams in the country from 3, and only shoot 67% from the free throw line. Look for big brother to flex their muscle and put the clamps on Miami’s offense and hold them to under 65.

Roll With the Tide: Alabama +1

Nick Saban has done such a good job with the football team they have decided to let him coach the basketball team as well. In all seriousness, this Alabama team is playing like a national championship contender. They went on a 10 game win streak earlier in the season where they destroyed everyone in their path and one of those games was a 31 point victory over these Razorbacks. There are plenty of reasons that Alabama should be favored in this game so I’ll be quick to jump on the free point. Alabama ranks second in the country in tempo which could spell a lot of trouble for the Razorbacks who will likely have trouble shooting above their season average against the best defense in the SEC. Arkansas won’t be able to keep up, roll with the tide and take Alabama +1.

Can’t Get Over Creighton: Creighton/DePaul under 142

No I’m not completely crazy in choosing an under for a team that averages almost 80 points per game. Before you right this one off hear me out. Creighton has scored right around the 70 point mark against the top 4 defenses they have to play this season and DePaul comes in at number four. DePaul actually held Creighton to their second lowest scoring total of the season the last time these two met back in January. DePaul has one of the worst offenses in the country ranking 232. The Blue Demons have scored over 70 points only four times the whole season, and VS  a top 50 Creighton defense it does not seem likely they will add a fifth. DePaul’s defense is good enough to slow down this Blue jays offense, and their offense is not good enough to put up enough points to make this one go over. Take the under 142

Winning With the Warriors: Warriors +3

I’m currently seeing this one still hanging around three points, but with how fast it came down there is a good chance this line gets closer to a pick. The main reason being is the Pacers haven’t played in a week. The Warriors have gotten back to playing .500 basketball going 5-5 in their last 10. Breaking down this matchup you have the Pacers who score the third most points in the paint against Golden state’s seventh ranked defense in the paint. We all know the Warriors like the three and they average 43 of their points from behind the arch good for sixth in the league and they should find success against Indians 12 ranked three point defense. This game matches up better for Golden state’s strengths vs a team that has been off for a week and might move to the ball to slow for the catch and shoot mentality of Golden state. Take the Warriors and the free bucket +3.
