Degens Only: Tuesday Plays, Mar. 30
The countdown is almost over. The start of the MLB season is only two days away. It’s going to be a great year as there are plenty of inter division matchups that are going to keep us entertained all year long. I know the one on the top of my list and probably everyone’s list is the Padres vs Dodgers series. Luckily, they won’t keep us waiting long as the first three game set kicks off April 16th. Runner up has to be the Braves vs the new look Mets. If everything works out, the NL East could be the most competitive division in baseball. As for today, we still have basketball to look forward too and that is where we will start with today’s plays.
Over Cooked Nuggets: Nuggets/Sixers over 221
No Embiid, no problem. Both of these teams remain in the top half of over teams in the league, Denver is hitting at a healthy 61%. With heavy numbers like that it’s no surprise that Denver has let up an average of 115 points over their last three games. Philly has only allowed an average of 107 over their last three, but did allow 122 in their last game out against the Clippers. Denver is also scoring in bunches, averaging 117 points across their last three. Philly is not too far behind averaging 110. So taking their most recent play as base for these stats these teams are averaging to score 227 points and allowing 222. Both sets of numbers put over tonight’s projected total. This game should be higher scoring, with neither side wanting to back down. Take the over 221.
Trojan Horse: USC +9
Call me crazy. I might be going against the world here even getting nine points but let’s go through it. The Zags are on top of the college basketball power rankings no doubt, but remember we are playing for a cover in this one, not the win. The Zags have been dominate all season and their closest game was a five point victory. This USC team comes in undoubtedly playing their best basketball of the season and will need to continue that momentum to hang around in this game. Against similar ranked offenses, the Zags won by five and by 11 against the two offenses they played ranked higher than the Trojans, but neither team possessed the caliber of defense that USC possesses. It will be the top ranked defense that the Zags have seen this season. In the end, I think 9 points is a little too much to give the Trojans. Take USC +9.
Banking on the Bruins: UCLA 1H +3.5
We’re getting specific with this one. UCLA has been able to hang tough in their game against Ohio State, and managed to be down only one heading into the break. The Buckeyes were the only offense that the bruins had to face that ranks better then Michigan on the offensive side of the ball. Michigan has also struggled against top rated offenses in the first half. Michigan was 0-4 against this 3.5 point spread this season and against the four offenses that ranked higher than UCLA. I like this line to complement how I believe the game flow will go. I think UCLA will come out firing and trying to keep it close, but Michigan will pull away in the second half. Take UCLA 1H +3.5
Hungry Hornets: Hornets ML
This game will definitely not be must see TV, but we feel like we have an edge so let’s dive in. First the Wizards are coming off a back to back in what was a track meet last night against the Pacers. The Hornets have been playing well over their last few games and with the Wizards might be without Beal again leaving a more rested Hornets team with a huge advantage. The Hornets defeated the Wizards by 22 in their only meeting so far this season, while this one won’t be by that much, the Hornets will get their second win against the Wizards. Take the Hornets on the moneyline
