Degens Only: Sunday Plays, April 25

Usually we start these off with a bit of sports news and we have some breaking news to deliver about this year’s NFL draft. Roger Goodell has been ok’d for hugs on draft night. That’s right when your excitement for becoming a millionaire boils over you can now hug Goodell and it will be alright. So that in fact means that he will not be hiding in his basement this year and we’re getting back to the way things should be. Let’s get into it and dap up todays plays

Tiger Kings: Royal’s Team Total over

The Royals have won the first two games of this series already and it’s simply because the Tigers can’t score. 14 runs over their last eight games won’t cut it against any team. The Tigers have had success against Duffy, who takes the hill for the Royals hitting .316 over 95 at bats which puts this game into the over territory. Detroit is the worst team in the league, hitting LHP hitting only .179 so far this year. We’re going to go with the safer pick which is the Royals team total over as they have had good success against Fulmer tagging him for a .295 BAA over 88 at bats. Ranking ninth in the league against RHP with a proven ability to hit Fulmer from multiple guys in the lineup, take the Royals Team total over.

Reversed Curse of the Bambino: Yankees F5 team total under

I really don’t know what else to call the start of this season for the Yank’s other than this. Early injuries have slowed them, followed with subpar pitching all the way around and an offense that is actually last in the league against RHP. As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, so today were heading back to the well and riding the Yankees scoring troubles until they prove otherwise. Today they get Triston McKenzie, a hard throwing young righty who should give the struggling Yank’s more trouble. New York only hitting .193 almost seems like a misprint, but when you see them sharing the AL east basement with the Orioles you know its reality. Look for the Yankees to continue struggling take their team total for the first 5 under.

Mighty Mets: Mets Team Total Over

I don’t think there is another pitcher that would want a restart to the first few starts of their season than Corbin. Over his first two starts, he got touched for 16 runs and he took both the losses. A small sign of hope came when he had by far his best outing of the season last time out giving up no runs and only four hits against the Cardinals. That success looks to be short lived as they face a Mets team that has the offense to give struggling pitchers like Corbin fits. This Mets lineup has hit him all over the park they are hitting a collective .301 lifetime against him over 163 at bats. Almost the whole lineup has dominated him. With his struggles and their huge success against him the Mets team total is the only play in this one. Take the Mets team total over.

Baby Birds: Blue Jays first five

The Jays have been on top of the Rays for the whole series jumping out to big early leads in each of the first two games. Today they get a setup man in Fleming who has appeared in three games but has only thrown about 10 innings. His stuff has been good and he has been a solid opener for the Rays, but he might have met his match for this one. The Jays bats seem to be in top form for this series as they even hit Cy Young contender Tyler Glasnow for a quick four runs in the first inning two days ago. Fleming is due for a bit of regression and the timing could be spot on when he gets the surging Blue Jays. To top it off the Jays are 10th in the league against lefties and should get off to another fast start in this one. Take the Jays over the first five.
