Degens Only: Friday Plays, Mar. 26

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and while this year’s deadline didn’t produce any huge deals like in some year’s past.  There were still some interesting moves made yesterday. The Miami Heat look to get back to the NBA Finals after an underwhelming start to the first half of their season with the addition of Victor Oladipo, not giving up much in Bradley and Olynyk and a pick – the Heat hands down won this trade. If they can land Aldridge, look for the Heat to make a run. The Magic did their best OKC impression and blew up their whole team via trade and stockpiled picks and a few young players to try for a full rebuild. The Nuggets secured their playmaker in Aaron Gordon and got out from under Gary Harris’ contract making them winners at the deadline. Now let’s make you guys winners with today’s top plays.

Putting up points with the Pelicans: Pelicans Team Total over 114

If you haven’t been following the Pelicans, let me be the first to tell you they put up some points on a consistent basis. How many points you may ask? The Pels record in their last 25 games for tonight’s posted total is 17-6-2. You don’t become the number one over’s team in the league and not put up your own fair share of points. Now, a few days back, we played the over between these two teams and it fell short with an underwhelming performance from the Nuggets. I don’t think this Pelicans defense can stop a team as good as Denver twice, so I expect a high scoring back and forth matchup, but I will stick with the team that is going over their total at a 68% clip. With Denver’s lack of defense, the Pelicans should soar over this total. Take the Pelicans team total over 114.

Greek Freak Over and Out Part 2: Celtics/Bucks over 233

We smashed this one a few days ago and as you can see by the total increasing Vegas has taken note. Giannis was even highly in affective in that game only scoring 14 points on 4-11 shooting. Nothing has changed from a few days ago, but here is the breakdown for this play again. This one has all the ingredients for an over. Let’s start with these two teams both rank in the top 10 in overs this season. The Celtics don’t have any significant injuries listed and the Bucks have Giannis as a game time decision. While he will most likely play, even if he doesn’t, this Bucks team just knows how to score as they put up 140 on the Pacers who have a better defensive rating than the Celtics. The Bucks have won 12 of their last 13 and they have put up 120+ in eight of those 12 wins. The Bucks also allowed 113+ in six of those wins. This game should go back and forth until the finish, take the over 233.

Pacers and Points Part 2: Pacers Team Total over 110

Reaching back into the well again with this one. The points total line was only moved up a half point from the last game against the Pistons that made the Pacers go over this posted total in seven of their last 11. Tonight they get the Mavs who have a better defense down low then the Pistons but only rank two spots higher at 23 overall in defensive ranking. A team hitting at 63% is something I’ll take all day, and we know the Mavs can put up points quick so there is the chance this one could turn into a shootout as well. Take the Pacers to go over the 110 mark.

Vally World: Valanciunas points and rebounds over 27.5

It’s about time we get some props going in some of these plays, and this is a good place to start. Valanciunas has been absolutely destroying the glass with 15+ boards in each of his last four games and a team that loves to shoot the three ball a ton. He should have plenty of opportunity to eclipse that number again tonight. He is also averaging 16+ points over his last three games; against a high scoring team like the Jazz the Grizzlies are going to need more of that effort. Memphis is coming into this game with a much needed high level of confidence after winning four of their last five games, which should translate into some good effort against a tough Jazz team. Take Valanciunas points and rebounds over 27.5.
