Degens Only: Friday Plays, July 23

The NFL came out with their memo addressing teams that have a Covid outbreak for the upcoming season. The memo included some interesting points that definitely ruffled some feathers. Players took to social media to express their disagreements with the NFL choices for the upcoming season. The main point that caught everyone’s eye was that of a team was decimated or if a position group was decimated, the team would be forced to forfeit the game and the game would not be made up, and players on both teams would not receive their game checks. The memo did not give specific numbers that would cause a postponement, so it would seem there is still more to come on this topic before the season gets underway. As for today’s plays we’re ready to go as we sit at 9-2-1 the last few days let’s get into it.

Happbeen: Angels F5 ML
Oh how the mighty have fallen. J.A Happ…man where a few years can get you. Happ is having one of the worst years in his career on one of the worst teams in baseball In the Twins. Happ has been struggling since April l, with maybe 2-3 good starts sprinkled in between. Things have gone off the rails since June; he has given up 14 home runs in eight starts and has only made it past the fifth inning in three starts and has allowed three or more runs in all but one start. Cobb takes the hill for the Angels and he is having a solid July so far, in his three starts he’s only allowed four runs while going at least five innings in each start. Cobb has faced this Twins team once this season and he threw five innings of one run ball. The Twins just traded the heart of their offense and best overall player in Cruz basically signaling the white flag for their season. Look for their disinterest to grow in the coming days starting with today, take the Angels F5 ML

Tiger Kings: Detroit ML
It’s a crazy world we’re living in here in 2021  The Detroit Tigers are the hottest team in baseball and it’s not close. The Tigers have a seven game winning streak coming out of the break and no other team has one longer than three. You know you have been bad for a long time if you feel off seven wins and one of your best arms is going and your still a +120 dog against a team with the fifth worst record in baseball. Peralta has pitched in two of the games on the Tigers winning streak and has only allowed one run in the two combined starts. The same cannot be said for the Royals starter Bubic, before his last start against the bottom of the barrel Orioles Bubic was having a rough July after giving up five runs in his first two starts this month along with four homers and multiple walks in each start. This Tigers offense has been hitting the ball extremely well they have scored seven of more runs in three of the seven games on the win streak. Look for the Tigers to keep the momentum as the Royals continue to have a forgotten season  The Tigers might actually be building to something here. Take the plus money with the hot team on the Detroit ML.

Everything is Bigger in Texas: Astros TT over 4.5
We have gone over how Houston has one of the best offenses from both sides of the plate and that trend is in play again today. Today, their playing in state rival the Rangers. The Rangers have been getting smacked around by everyone and are one of the worst teams in baseball. They send Allard to the hill today and while he did mainly relief work in the beginning of the season with some spot-starts he has turned into one of their starters and the results over the last month have been what you would probably expect, not good. He has allowed four or more runs in all but one start and has allowed a home run in all but one start. As we’ve seen lately they Rangers bullpen isn’t going to be slowing anyone down either. This should be all Houston so take their team total over 4.5.

Wheelin and Dealin
Zach Wheeler over 7K’sZach Wheeler led the league in strike outs until recently, when Gerrit Cole took the top spot (they must have found something sticky he can get away with.) Coming into today’s game, Wheeler will see the Braves for the third time this season; a team he has had double digit strike outs against in two of the three starts. Wheeler has a good history of going into the sixth and seventh innings and this game should be a tight one so he could go as long as his pitch count will allow. Take Wheeler to get over 7 strikeouts.
