Degens Only: Friday Plays, July 2

Happy Bobby Bonilla day! If you’re not familiar this is probably the most famous “life time” contracts in all of sports. The New York Mets made a deal to pay Bonilla in yearly installments of 1.19 million for the sum of his contract. The contract total was only for 5.9 million but Bonilla structured a deal to be paid out with 8% interest making the contract extend until 2035 where Bonilla will be 72. From dead money to live money as we celebrate Bobby Bonilla day and get into our top plays.

All aboard the Chi Chi train: Stl/Col over 12
Starting things with a game at Coors field is always a plus in the over column. Second that with this Cardinals team has already hit Chi Chi for seven runs in their previous encounter a game that was not played at Coors. Gonzales has been hit hard over his last few starts at home giving up 13 runs over his last three starts. Oviedo gets the nod for the Cardinals and his road stats are alarming considering he is about to pitch at Coors. He stands 0-2 with almost a seven run ERA and a 9/15 K/BB ratio. The ball should be flying with these two guys on the mound 12 runs won’t be enough. Take the over 12.

Angels in the Outfield: LAA team total over 4.5
As the Angels start to get healthier the runs start to pick back up. They have scored five or more runs in seven of their last 12 games. Today their getting an awful Orioles team who is traveling out test after a shocking sweep of the Astros. The Orioles are putting out Akin their big young left hander who can’t seem to quite figure the big leagues out. He still sits at 1-6 after 18 starts lifetime and 0-4 in 10 starts this season. On the road he is 0-3 with an ERA near eight and is allowing teams to hit right above .300. The Angels should be able to jump on Akin early and often. Take LAA team total over 4.5.

Double Dip: LAA/BAL over 9.5
Yup we’re double dipping this game. For all the reasons mentioned in the pick above runs should be scored early in the game. If you’re a follower of these articles you know that the Angels have one of the worst bullpens in baseball. The Orioles come into this game swinging some hot bats as they were able to hang 27 runs on the Astros over a three-game sweep. This Angels bullpen should allow them to keep the runs coming even if they start the game off slow. Take the over 9.5 In this game as well.

Lost Tribe: Astros Team Total over 5
This one is setting up to be messy for the Indians. The Astros just got embarrassed by the last place Orioles on their home field and could certainly be looking to take some frustrations out here. To start the Astros have mashed left handers this season and Hentges has been up and down this season and lately he has been down, not good timing. It’s going to be a long day for this Indians team having to deal with this group, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one cash earlier rather than later. Take the Astros Team Total over 5.
