Degens Only: Friday Plays, April 4

Opening day had firsts for many. First wins, first losses, first rain out, and the first Covid cancel, and it was literally the first day of baseball. The Dodgers proved that the World Series hangover is a real thing, but don’t worry Dodgers fans, you have many more games left to climb atop the National League. The Mets and Nationals kicked their seasons off with a Covid postponement and both teams will now have to wait till the 5th, and hopefully be able to take the field then. The Sox and Orioles got rained out on their first day, but will look to kick off their seasons today. Let’s kick off our MLB season with our four top plays for today’s slate.

South Side: White Sox Team total over 4.5

Andrew Heaney is no Mad Bum, and with this Chicago team being able to put up three runs in a game where he started, I like them to be able to do it vs Heaney and the backend of the Angels bullpen. Heaney is the only starter on today’s slate that has a .300+ BAA VS the opponent he’s facing. The heart of this line up has solid success against Heaney which has a good chance to lead to a lot of baserunners and eventually runs. I highly respect this Angels lineup, so I won’t take the White Sox on the moneyline until I have been proven wrong.  Take the White Sox team total over 4.5.

Tim Time: Tim Anderson over 1.5 hits

This one is going to be short and sweet. Anderson is one of the top 10 hitters in all of baseball. He has had a lot of success while at the plate against Heaney. He is hitting over .400 lifetime going four for nine. Hitting from the leadoff spot look for Anderson to see a lot of pitches and get at least two hits in this one. Take Tim Anderson to get over 1.5 hits.

Pound the Padres: Padres Team Total over 4.5

Kelly takes the mound for the D-backs tonight and he has had a large sample of bad games over the last two seasons and he can really let things compile and get out of hand. Looking back to 2019, his first full season, he had multiple outings where he let up six or seven runs in consecutive outings. With a lineup like the Padres, who are poised to put up bunches of runs, 4.5 runs does not seem like a tall task, especially when they eclipsed this total against a pitcher who is a lot better than Kelly just yesterday. The Diamondbacks bullpen is not much to write home about either with the top tier of their pen letting up two runs yesterday I don’t have much hope for the second tier guys. The Padres should have their way in this game as Kelly is no match for this lineup. Take the Padres team total over 4.5.

Hornets’ Nest: Hornets/Pacers over 219

This is a matchup of two of the hottest teams in the league at the moment. The Pacers have scored 109+ points in eight of their last 10 games. The Hornets are in the middle of the pack when it comes to defense so the Pacers should have no trouble reaching this number again. The Hornets have been average on the offensive side over their last 10 games. The Pacers let up an average of 110 and the Hornets are putting up an average of 110. These two have played twice so far this season trading wins and the first game eclipsing the posted total and the second game came close, but back to back games against the same team often have a lower scoring second game. With the way both teams are playing at the moment this one has a good shot at going over. Take the Hornets/Pacers over 219.
