Status of Sports Betting in Connecticut
Sports betting in the state of Connecticut is officially legal, but not available to use quite yet. As far as we know, the state is still on track to launch their online apps for sports betting by September 6. The state of Connecticut is looking to launch near the beginning of the NFL regular season, due to the dominance NFL betting possesses over other sports. To launch in time to receive a full season of NFL bets would be a huge win. Factor in the fact that Connecticut borders New York and Massachusetts, two states that are well-known for their passionate football fans, and this would also be a win for would-be bettors of the NFL. Upon its launch, wagering will be offered by way of mobile apps and by way of visiting a physical sportsbook to bet in-person.
Connecticut Sports Betting Apps
As previously mentioned, Connecticut would be selecting three sportsbooks that residents would have access to.
- BetRivers Sportsbook will be partnering with the Connecticut Lottery
- DraftKings Sportsbook will be partnering with Foxwoods Resort Casino
- FanDuel Sportsbook will be partnering with Mohegan Sun
Connecticut may still be finalizing some of the minute details of their legal sports betting launch, but we know these three sportsbooks will be accessible for sure. What should be reassuring to skeptical bettors is that Connecticut will be using three recognizable and trusted names. The only concern that bettors in Connecticut should have upon launch are which of these three great apps they should select.
Steps to Place a Bet in Connecticut
For some, this process may be straightforward. For others, the process of beginning to place your bets in your new apps is an unfamiliar one. For every step of the process, let’s take a look at how to sign up, place a bet, and win big in the Nutmeg State.
How to Choose Which App is Right for You
This option is important, but not something to stress yourself out with. The state of Connecticut and their three partners for launching legal online sports betting have done a great job of making sure that their sports betting partners are trustworthy and have a positive reputation. Between BetRivers, FanDuel, and DraftKings, you will have three great options to select from. Beyond that, you can nitpick to find the app that has the details you want. Pay attention to things like bonuses offered and how long it takes to receive a payout. You can switch apps at any time, so it’s not a one-time selection.
Signing up for an App
Downloading the app of your choosing is as simple as downloading Instagram or Twitter. Simply use your mobile device’s app store and search for the app you want. When opening the app for the first time, you will be able to sign up. During your initial sign up, if you were provided any bonuses or offered a promo code, this is the time you would enter it. You will see it during your registration.
Before you may proceed forward, you will have to verify your location to prove that you are in the state of Connecticut. This is as simple as opening your settings and finding an option that says, “allow access to location”.
How to Place Your Deposit
This is a basic process that you have likely seen from other purchases made with different apps and websites. There are multiple ways you can deposit and transfer your money. Choose the one that is most convenient for you, enter your information, and it will transfer directly into your account.
How to Place Your Bets
After that short process, you can finally begin placing bets in the state of Connecticut. This is where the real excitement begins. This is your chance to evaluate the lines, choose which ones you would like to wager on, and decide how much money you would like to place on it. Upon making your selection, you will have to make a confirmation before the bet is officially locked in.
Connecticut Teams to Bet On
Connecticut only has two professional sports teams in the state. Those two teams are the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA and the New England Black Wolves, the national lacrosse team. Luckily for you residents of CT, you will be provided even more options to bet on. Due to the small size of the state, residents will also be able to wager on sports teams that are close to them, such as pro sports teams from nearby New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Many people that live in Connecticut have adopted fandom of teams from those states, most notably the Boston sports market, which seemingly engulfs the entire state of Connecticut.
Betting on college sports is where some states have made things tricky. Some states, while they have legalized sports gambling, have placed restrictions on certain aspects of betting on college sports. There are some states that do not allow live betting on college games. Other states have also elected to restrict gambling on in-state college teams. Virginia and New Jersey are examples of this. So far, it does not seem like Connecticut will follow suit, but the possibility of future laws changing that are always out there.
There are states, however, that have elected to allow betting on in-state college teams, such as Michigan and Pennsylvania. If Connecticut follows the precedent that these two states, among others, have set, these are some of the schools in NCAA Division I Athletics that you could be able to place a bet on:
- Central Connecticut State
- Sacred Heart
Outside of team sports, betting on other events such as greyhound and horse racing will be permitted, although that has been legal since 1976.
The future of sports betting in Connecticut looks bright, as residents will have many options on who to bet on and will have their choice of where to place these bets. It’s an exciting time to be a resident of CT, as the sports gambling scene for you is about to skyrocket.
