Best Bets: Suns and Stros, June 26
Good weekend, ya degens. The Tampa Bay Lightning are headed to the Stanley Cup Final and I am lit up about it. Tampa is the center of the sports universe. It makes absolutely no sense and it probably never will but all I know is that Tom Brady went to the Buccaneers and since then, fans in Tampa have been spoiled as hell. I, one of those fans, have been spoiled as hell.
But now onto something else – the slate that is this weekend. The biggest game of the weekend will be played in Los Angeles when the Suns and the Clippers battle in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. The Suns looked like they were moving towards another 4-0 series sweep but the Clippers did what they do best which is go down 2 games and then win the next two in dominant fashion.
Game 4 is a pick ’em with even spread and a total of 218.5. I’ll say this about the game on Thursday and it’s that the Suns offense was atrocious, something they are not used to. On the other hand, the Clippers were getting every basket they wanted and no one could do anything to stop them.
I don’t necessarily LOVE this bet but I am going with the OVER of 218.5. You had Devin Booker who could hardly see at all and then you had Chris Paul who was playing in his first game back from having COVID and sitting out for nearly two weeks. This Suns offense should come out with a chip on their shoulders and I think Monty Williams is a good enough coach to make the adjustments they need to score when they want. As for the spread, I would LIVE bet this game in the third quarter or so and see where it’s all sitting.
A fun little prop I have going in this game is Devin Booker OVER 27.5 points. After the atrocious performance that he put up last game, this line has moved down significantly from where it should be. Now that he is a few more days removed from the nose injury and has more experience with the mask, I think Booker will rebound strongly here. 2 of his last 4 games have gone over 27.5 and there is just no way that he shoots 5-21 and 1-7 from three in this game.
I really think the Suns will keep up the pace and force the Clippers to transition quickly and that is when Booker can absolutely kill teams.
Outside of those two picks, I am also handing out a baseball pick that I love and it concerns the red-hot Houston Astros. They are taking on a crappy Tigers team and this is a golden opportunity for free money. Framber Valdez is on the mound for the Stros and this guy is quietly having a brilliant season. He has a 1.67 ERA and a .99 WHIP and hasn’t taken a loss in a game that he’s pitched so far. Houston has won 11 straight games while Detroit is 11 games under .500. Casey Mize is a good pitcher, but I think Houston will get to him relatively easily. I am not afraid to take Houston -1.5 here .
