Best Bets: Big Points in Nets Bucks, June 5th

Time to punch the card and clock in for the weekend because it is money making time and if you aren’t on board, then there just isn’t a spot on this staff for you. Lots of good shit going on this weekend and I am ready to start saving away for the Golden Tee I so covet in my studio apartment.

Also, this is not something I typically write about in these articles but holy shit if you aren’t watching college baseball, you need to turn that on right this second. Tennessee had a bat-flip walk-off grand slam down three in the ninth that I have already asked to be played at my funeral. And the Gamecocks won a thriller and then one of their players immediately started showboating by acting as if he was dropping his nuts on the opponent, this sports is absolutely insane.

Rant over – let’s jump right into the picks that will put you up on the weekend, no doubt about it.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets OVER 239.5
Woah, 239.5 points looks like a shit ton right off the bat and the playoffs have had a slow place and the Bucks played excellent defense against the Heat in the opening round. Well, you can absolutely throw those shit takes right out the window because this series will be different. In 2 of 3 games this year between the two, the total FLEW over 239.5. Oh, and in all three of those games, the Nets were either without Harden or Kyrie.

The craziest stat in this one is that totals that are set at 239.5 or higher have hit the OVER 69 percent of the time in the NBA this year. The Nets were nearly a 60 percent shooting team in effective field goal percentage and did you see how effectively they shot the three ball against Boston? I like Jrue Holiday but also don’t trust him to cover all the ground he will need to defensively. This has shootout written all over it and I am taking that.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Tampa Bay Lightning UNDER 5.5 Goals
Ok, now it’s time to swing in the absolute opposite direction. The Lightning and Hurricanes series has showcased excellent defense and intense goaltending. Last game, Carolina opted to put Petr Mrazek between the pipes and he made 35 saves while allowing just two goals. He also came up huge in the overtime period where he put the Lightning to rest right off the bat on a power play where he made three consecutive saves in a 30-second span.

In the first three games of this series, the total goal results have been 3, 3, and 5. In the last two games, these two sides have combined for just nine power play opportunities and both have done a pretty decent job of managing. Defense has been the key in this whole series and so I am sticking with that play here today and taking the under.

Jean Segura OVER 1.5 Bases
Let’s go, my favorite fucking thing to bet on in the whole entire world. Jean Segura is my play today because this dude absolutely RIPS Joe Ross of the Washington Nationals. Segura is on a tear as it is, batting .320 right now with 7 hits in his last 20 at-bats. In his career against Joe Ross, Segura is batting .571 in 14 at-bats and no strikeouts. He is batting second in the order in this game today which tells me that he should get 2-3 at-bats against Ross and potentially 4-5 on the day. Ross has an ERA of 5.4 this season so I am picking my guy Jean/
